An indentured 'slave' child carpet worker in Uttar Pradesh, India. These children work for only a few rupees a day and are employed because only small young fingers can manipulate the threads finely enough. They are effectively the property of the factory owners. Since the UN year of the child in 1992 the Indian government has sworn to eradicate the exploitation of children. This has been an empty promise and the factories are still full of the poorest children from Bihar and Nepal whose parents have no choice but to sell them into slavery. Dan White/Impact Photos
